For the 1807 $5 Half Eagle, the US mint produced two varieties as it transitioned between type design. The initial design by Robert Scot had been in usage since 1795. In 1807, the mint produced only 32,488 of this type. It then transitioned to the design by John Reich of which 51,605 were produced. The former is today referred to the "Draped Bust" or "Bust Right" version and the latter as the "Capped Bust" or "Bust Left" variety. The survival of both in AU58 is roughly the same at around 38-40 examples each. This is a type in constant demand amongst US coin collectors and surely will offer long-term value.
