The "Turbin Head" design in early $5 gold (also known as the Capped Bust, Large Bust) lasted from 1807 to 1812. Examples in the AU to lower MS range are available in the marketplace, but here's an issue where it pays to pay for quality. Many of these coins are over-dipped or exhibit characteristics of improper cleaning over the years. You can tell this in the marketplace because of the wide range of prices found, covering a span of $3-4k for examples all in AU58. The PCGS Price Guide for this coin is $14,000. Here's a coin that has original luster in the protected areas (around the stars) and only slight amounts of wear on high points making it a true 58 and lovely for the grade.
