This old ingot is one of the grandfathers of modern day vintage ingot collecting. The San Francisco mint, also being an assay office capable of fashioning 999 pure ingots for public or private consumption, created ingots of various sizes and varieties for decades. This particular style is called a "sheared" ingot due to the style of shearing that is present on one side. The mint made larger sheets of metal that were then sheared off in 25 oz approximate sizes.
