The quality of your DMPL (Deep Mirror Proof Like) coins is wholly dependent on the depth of the fields. The mint workers polished up a die, started striking coins and the first few (or more) came out with these highly contrasted field/device coins. They really are remarkable in hand. This 1881-CC has a sister coin (please ask for pics) and both are crazy nice.
